Analysts from the media holding Rambler&Co asked Internet users whether they expect Western brands to return and under what
conditions. According to the survey, despite the interest in automobile and technology companies, most respondents want to maintain the
leading positions of domestic brands on the market.
40% of survey participants believe that Western brands may return as early as 2025. Another 16% expect them to return in 2026, and 32%
are sure that this is a long process that will take two to three years. Western brands should The remaining 12% said that the time frame is not

53% of Russians surveyed are against accepting
the departed companies on the same terms. Of these, 28% are guided by emotions, and 25% by the confidence that domestic production and import substitution are developing better without them. 27% took a neutral position, and every fifth (20%) is really looking forward to the brands coming back without conditions.

Western brands should return on the condition that they transfer production to Russia. Another 16% propose increasing taxes for such companies, and 10% insist on paying penalties to those who lost let’s work together their jobs because of their departure. 9% propose limiting their advertising slots in the media, and 3% even demand an apology. Only 1% agree to the previous conditions for return.
Among those who miss Western companies, 43% are primarily waiting for the return of cars and components. Another 20% – equipment and spare parts, and 17% – clothing and footwear brands. Foreign electronic services and subscriptions are of interest to 6% of respondents, and social networks and food products – only 3% and 4%, respectively. The remaining 7% chose other product options.
Those respondents who do not expect
a return, nevertheless admit that some areas of Russian production still need to be “pulled up”. Thus, the majority (53%) believe that the automotive industry needs to be developed more. Another 22% point to the lag in equipment and spare parts, and 10% – in clothing and footwear. Electronic services, social networks and food products, phone database according to respondents, are lagging behind the least – 4%, 2% and 1% respectively. The remaining 8% chose other areas.
Most respondents (60%) believe that if Western competitors return, Russian companies should focus on quality. Another 17% suggest reducing prices on domestic goods, and 14% are confident that they can continue to work as before. Only 9% are in favor of cooperation with Western companies.
The survey was conducted on the resources of the Rambler&Co media holding from February 20 to 27, 2025, covering 214,770 Internet users.
